About Jean

Moving and making have interested Jean Cherouny for decades. When she entered grade school, she was a ballet dancer. She is familiar with “feet movement” from her years of competitive biking, skiing, and soccer. Her kinesthetic interests left her curious about how her mind and body bring paint and sport together and call it fine art. In college, where she created large futuristic bike racers for her senior thesis, she began to discover her visual voice in paint.“Speed pushes me to the brink while using my rollerblades to play with colors. Jean’s large-scale rollerblade paintings, first executed in 2008, as well as smaller-scale“wheel work,” all go beyond the brush. They are brightly colored, visually dynamic, and enduringly inspiring to viewers and fellow artists. Jean studied at the University of Vermont for a BS in Art Education, where she was also a competitive skier. She earned her MFA from Northern Vermont University in 2010. She has shown her work in juried and commercial shows in America and Europe. While Jean paints all over the world, she CURRENTLY exhibits her art in public spaces with the ArtisA Art Gallery, San Nicolas, Aruba. Her work can be commissioned and purchased online here.

About Jean’s Art

American Artist Jean Cherouny is known for a painting style she calls Active Expressionism, first inspired by innovative Abstract Expressionist painters Joan Mitchell, Jackson Pollock and Rebecca Purdum. Jean uses wheels of all sorts to create dynamic art pieces and interactive exhibitions.

Cherouny’s artistic achievements expand a spirit of creative transcendence through technical invention. As Pollock threw and dripped paint, as Purdum applies paint with her own hands and fingers, Jean Cherouny first went “beyond the brush” using her rollerblade wheels to literally skate paint onto the canvas in 2008. Bursting with athletic energy and spirit, her work simultaneously involves eye, mind, and body. Jean’s art and public performances have been seen in the United States, Europe, Aruba, and the Philippines.

Continuing to explore the artistic horizons of wheel-painting, Jean celebrates different styles, including street art. Through selling her art to collectors, she teaches and inspires future generations.

Red Dot Miami

In 2025, I had the incredible opportunity to showcase my work at Red Dot Miami through ArtisA Gallery and Perseus Gallery, along with my participation in Art Expo NYC with Perseus. I also participated in The Other Art Fair in Dallas, Texas. These experiences allowed me to share my unconventional artistic approach with a wider audience, igniting my creativity like never before. I have been showing online and in person at art fairs since 2021. You can find my story in publications by ItsLiquid, Arts To Heart Project, and The Visionary Art Collective.

Dallas, The Other Art Fair

The Other Art Fair invited 130 artists to participate in the Market Hall Fair in Dallas, Texas. We flew from Aruba and arrived to prepare Jean’s booth. All the art was carried in our suitcases and hung in a beautiful display. Before the fair, I posted new works on Saatchi Online, where people saw the work before the opening night. The Other Art Fair team posted Flamingo Fling online, which helped buyers seek my style in my booth. We enjoyed several nights of meeting with the fair organizers and other artists. On the Saturday night of the fair, we brought a print to a social hour to share with another artist. A print swap is a great way to connect the exhibitors and make everyone’s art available to the artists. Look for me at the October Fair in Atlanta, October 1-4 this year.
