The Hidden Cost of Showing: What It Really Takes to Share Your Art

The Hidden Cost of Showing: What It Really Takes to Share Your Art

As an artist, the glamorous part of the process is always the canvas—the colors, the movement, the feeling of a piece coming together. But there is a whole other side to being a working artist that rarely makes it into the frame: the financial reality of putting your work out into the world.

It is incredibly difficult to plan for exhibitions, gallery shows, and professional goals when you do not yet have the steady sales income to support the ambition of creating artwork that feels important, bold, and expansive. Logistics, framing, transport, and gallery participation all demand resources long before a single brushstroke finds a buyer.

The Reality of the Gallery Experience

This month, I had the honor of being the featured artist at ArtisA Gallery. It is a wonderful space, and sharing my rollerblade paintings and abstract work with visitors was an inspiring experience. However, the practical outcome was humbling: out of a full collection designed to make an impact, only one painting found its new home.

Exhibitions require vulnerability, time, and financial investment. When the sales do not match the effort or the financial outlay, it forces a hard look at sustainability. Art that pushes boundaries requires space to breathe, and that space is fueled by support.

How You Can Help Sustain a Creative Practice

Art does not exist in a vacuum; it thrives in a community. If you want to see artists grow, take risks, and sustain their practices over the long term, patronizing working artists makes all the difference.

  • Explore the Collection: You can browse my available pieces on my Saatchi Online Gallery profile to find original works that speak to you.

  • Invest in What You Love: Purchase the art you have always wanted to own rather than just waiting for the "right time."

  • Give a Meaningful Gift: Buy a unique piece as a lasting gift for yourself or someone you love.

Every purchase, share, and kind word helps bridge the gap between ambitious creative goals and sustainable reality. Thank you for believing in the journey and supporting working artists.
