Living in the Art World in Aruba
Meet Jean Cherouny: An ArtistDriving Aruba’s Growing Art Community
Jean Cherouny has made Aruba her home, bringing her passion for art and dedication to enriching the local cultural scene. As a board member of ArtisA Gallery, she has played a vital role in launching the Aruba Art Fair—an event that not only showcases local talent but also offers artists valuable exposure across the Caribbean and now in Miami.
With her extensive experience attending art fairs across the United States and a solid background in art education, Jean has been a consistent presence at the Aruba Art Fair. Over the past three years, she has participated as an exhibiting artist and volunteer, actively contributing to the event’s success while gaining invaluable insight into the local art landscape.
Her involvement has helped elevate Aruba’s reputation as a vibrant art hub, fostering connections and opportunities for artists of all levels. Through ArtisA Gallery, she and her team now also offer diverse art education programs aimed at various ages and skill levels, nurturing creativity and artistic development within the community.
When she’s not working on the Aruba Art Fair or mentoring aspiring artists, Jean maintains her own art studio. Her creative pursuits include experimental abstract painting, a style she passionately teaches to enthusiasts eager to explore new artistic boundaries. Additionally, she co-hosts an artist retreat with her husband, Hal Colston, providing an inspiring environment for artists to rejuvenate and grow their craft.
Jean Cherouny’s dedication to art—both as an artist and educator—continues to make a meaningful impact on Aruba’s cultural landscape. Her efforts are helping to position the island as a thriving destination for art and creativity, spreading inspiration from the One Happy Island to the wider world.
