Painting Textured Circle: Movement, Memory, and the Evolution of Abstract Expression
Every painting begins with a single gesture.
For me, Textured Circle began as an exploration of movement—a physical act of painting that reflects both the rhythms of nature and the journey of a woman finding her own visual language. The circle has long represented unity, continuity, and renewal. In this work, layered textures and energetic marks become a record of movement, intuition, and lived experience.
As a contemporary abstract artist, I often think about the women who paved the way before me. For generations, many female painters worked in the shadow of their male counterparts despite making extraordinary contributions to modern and abstract art. Their courage created space for artists like me to paint freely, experiment boldly, and embrace physicality as an essential part of the creative process.
My work is rooted in that expanding history—not by repeating it, but by continuing the conversation.
As the creator of my rollerblade painting technique, I have developed a practice I call Active Expressionism. Instead of relying solely on traditional brushes, I paint using a handheld rollerblade wheel, allowing athletic movement, momentum, and instinct to become part of every composition. Each layer records a physical journey across the canvas, making every painting impossible to duplicate.
Textured Circle embodies this philosophy. Thick surfaces, expressive marks, and dynamic forms invite viewers to slow down and discover new relationships within the painting. The work shifts throughout the day as light catches the raised textures, revealing fresh details from every angle.
Living and working in Aruba, I am constantly inspired by wind, water, tropical vegetation, and the energy of island life. These elements find their way into my paintings not as literal landscapes but as emotional experiences translated into color, texture, and movement.
As I prepare for my upcoming fall exhibitions, Textured Circle represents an important milestone in the continuing evolution of my studio practice. Every new body of work builds upon years of experimentation, curiosity, and a commitment to creating paintings that celebrate freedom, resilience, and joy.
For collectors, acquiring an original painting is more than purchasing artwork—it is becoming part of an artist’s unfolding story. Each piece documents a moment in my creative evolution and reflects my lifelong dedication to pushing the boundaries of abstract painting.
If Textured Circle speaks to you, I invite you to explore my available original paintings and collections through my Saatchi Art gallery and discover how movement, texture, and intuition come together in every work.
